From Day to Day

Nelson Mandela Square and statue in Sandton South Africa

Day 1 ° > Sandton (Johannesburg)

Arrival Day

Arrival in Sandton (Johannesburg) until 6 pm. At 7 pm Welcome to Africa beers and a few words about the days to come! And after that, you have time to eat at Nelson Mandela Square… or at the hotel if the previous night in the plane feels heavy between your ears!

Day 2 ° Sandton - Lydenburg - Hazyview

South Africa ° 422km, 4h 54m ° b,d

Your motorcycle is at the hotel! Most likely it came already yesterday and you had time to say ‘hello’ to it before welcome beers! It means also, that in the morning we are ready to go! Go east, to the gate of Africa's third-best natural park, Kruger National Park. The landscape around J.burg is a bit serious, but it's getting better all day km after km. Latest on the last 100km between Lydenburg and Hazyview you drive with a large smile inside your helmet!

Day 3 ° Kruger National Park

South Africa ° b,l

Safari Day and possibly Big 5 day! We start our game drive at the time of sunrise and we are back at the hotel around mid-afternoon. There between we drive in Kruger Park with a Safari Jeep! In Kruger, it is possible to spot the big five; elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, and lion. But animals are animals, so no promise :) … and it's not a bad idea to bring binoculars with you to South Africa! We have a couple of other wildlife destination also Late afternoon and evening own time!

Day 4 ° Hazyview - Swaziland - Pongola

SA - Swaziland - SA ° 429km, 6h 10m ° b,d

Here we come Swaziland! There are actually a few options for the day’s route through Swaziland and we can do the final decision in the morning according to the weather, mind, and position of the stars! And regardless of route, it will be a beautiful driving day and

you will see a couple of sugar cane fields on the way! Our final address for the night is awesome Mvubu Lodge, which is in the middle of the Pongola Nature Reserve up on a hill!

Day 5 ° Pongola - Route 66 - Shakaland

South Africa ° 238km, 3h 32m ° b,d

Our day starts with a game drive… boat or jeep! And the address is where we are, Pongola Natural Park! That means that you might see a girafe or a zebra in the parking lot :) After a couple of hours on safari, we will have an excellent late breakfast with stunning views. And then nothing we have less than Get Your Kicks of Route 66. So we hit South Africa’s Route 66 to Shakaland which is the heart of Zululand! And also tonight we stay at a special place, Shakaland Zulu Village Hotel. After dinner there will be a big and colorful Zulu performance! Enjoy!

Day 6 ° Shakaland - Route 66 - Champagne Valley

South Africa ° 348km, 4h 45m ° b,d

After your first 45 km motorcycle ride, you have done Route 66 South Africa! ;) From the end of Route 66, we drive south another 40km, and then we have only beautiful countryside all the way to Winterton. From Winterton, we have only stunning views into Champagne Valley. The Valley is said to have received its name from the first climber who climbed up to Champagne Peak with a bottle of champagne. And up there the unlucky climber dropped the bottle down while trying to open it to celebrate the conquest!

Day 7 ° C. Valley - Golden Gate NP - Maseru

Then trough the awesome Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve. Then we have magnificent Golden Gate National Park and the rest of the day we roll on Lesotho’s hills to the capital of Lesotho, Maseru.

Yesterday we were driving Lesotho A1 from Butha Buthe to Maseru. Today we drive Lesotho A2 from Maseru to Mohales Hoek, wherefrom we return to the right and South Africa. If you have been driving in the state of Wyoming in US, you know how the landscape looks like! :) Our final address for the day is Cradock, which is a 36000 peoples city in the middle of the Eastern Cape State.

The first part is countryside and the second part is seaside. And today we also stop for 2 nights at the seaside, at picturesque Saint-Francis Bay. Our first part of the day goes south to Port Elizabeth, wherefrom we turn west towards Nature’s Bay. From Port Elizabeth, we take a very nice seaside loop via Summerstrand and Kini Bay! There is also many good places for a late lunch.

Today the motorcycle ride scenery just gets better towards the end even we start from very nice! We follow coastline until George, wherefrom we turn north towards South Africa's Ostrich capital Oudtshoorn. In Oudtshoorn, we change our bikes to a tractor-trailer for a while and take a tractor-safari at an Ostrich farm! After speedy birds with small brains, we have the best part of our biking day! We cross the awesome Svartberg Pass

Another great day of driving on stunning roads in stunning scenery, there are more in South Africa than you can imagine and you might be surprised even if you imagine well! :) ... Today we also drive to the Nordkapp of Africa! To the point where Africa starts or where it ends or vice versa. That is, to the southernmost point of Africa, Cape Agulhas, which is also the point in Africa where the Indian Ocean turns into the Atlantic Ocean in the barren handsome nose of the headland.

Day 13 ° Cape Agulhas - Cape Town

Yesterday evening we fell asleep with the smell of the oceans and today we woke up with the smell of oceans! After the smells of bacon, eggs, and coffee we head to Betty’s Bay, which is our Africa experiences last natural destination. We visit the African Penguin Colony! After the sympathetic penguins, we have an extremely awesome 23km between Betty’s Bay and Gordons Bay! But we believe that you can live with it! :) In Cape Town is time to say goodbye to our bikes! In the evening, our trip’s closing dinner is in Mama Africa, one of the city’s most popular restaurants. When you are there, you know why!
