Pan-American Highway Motorcycle Adventure
We start this 85-day once-in-a-lifetime extreme motorcycle expedition in Anchorage, Alaska.
From there, we ride the Pan-American Highway north to Prudhoe Bay, the northernmost point of the American road system, before turning south and continuing all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina. Along the way, we experience a unique journey from late summer in Alaska to late spring in Patagonia, crossing 15 countries and thousands of kilometers of some of the most iconic roads in the world — without ever facing winter in between. This is a 30,000 km guided motorcycle expedition across the Americas.

Bikes on the tour!

Your own All-Road motorcycle...
... ship it from home or buy it from Alaska. Any all-road bike from 500cc up is ok. A Honda CB 500X works as well as a BMW R 1300GS. But maybe not with a Chinese bike!?. However, it's difficult to say for sure any more! 🤔 The quality of Chinese motorcycles has improved year by year.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this Pan-American Highway motorcycle tour special?
This is an ultimate motorcycle adventure that follows the Pan-American Highway, the world’s longest continuous road network, stretching from Alaska to Argentina. The journey crosses 15 countries and covers approximately 30,000 km from end to end across the Americas.
How long is the Pan-American Highway motorcycle tour?
The tour lasts 85 days, including 66 riding days and 17 rest days, traveling from Alaska to Argentina along the Pan-American Highway.
Where does the Pan-American Highway motorcycle tour start and end?
The tour starts in Anchorage, Alaska, USA, and ends in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, following the full length of the Pan-American Highway.
What type of roads will we ride on?
Most of the roads are paved roads (85%), and most are in good condition… and some are not so good… and some are terrible. In South America we will also have some gravel roads and desert roads. In Bolivia you will drive on a huge salt lake.
What kind of motorcycle is best for this trip?
Shortly, an all-road bike with 500 cc or more is the best. An all-road bike works on all types of surfaces. That said, a street bike works also, and it’s possible to do the tour even with a Harley. But to keep our caravan moving smoothly, no Harleys or street bikes on this adventure! Except HD Pan American, although it doesn't have the reputation of being the most reliable bike in the world!
To ship your own bike to Anchorage or to buy one from there?
Both options work well. You can ship your own to Alaska and back from Tierra del Fuego. We help you with the bureaucracy. As well, today it’s easy to buy a bike from Alaska. This is a good option if you want to keep the bike after the tour. Selling the bike in Argentina is not an option today.
For who is this tour suitable?
This Pan-American Highway motorcycle adventure is for highly experienced riders with a true open expedition mindset. And with a lot of experience. This adventure is not suitable for beginners or intermediate Sunday riders. Your mind must be comfortable on long days when needed and with widely varying conditions. You must be capable of handling fatigue, heat, altitude, and remote riding.
How hard is this Pan-American Highway motorcycle tour?
This is a 5/5 trip in terms of difficulty. You will go through every emotion on your emotional map on this trip and many that you don't know you have yet. So, depending on the person, the difficulty of the trip can easily be more psychological than physical. And three months on the road is three months on the road. So the better physically fit you are, the better you will be able to handle the stresses of the trip.
Can I have a passenger?
Depends totally on you. If you have been riding a lot together and understand that even every day on a motorcycle tour is a Saturday, some of the days might still feel like black Mondays. Then ok.
What kind of hotels are there on the trip?
Generally hotels on the tour are good or very good midrange hotels. But keep in mind that this is not a package tour where you have a comfy ‘Holiday Inn’ with fast internet, AC, pool, minibar and a good restaurant every evening. Sometimes we have to take what we get.
Is there a support vehicle?
No. There is no support vehicle, so you’ll carry all you need on your bike.
What is the weather like on this tour?
You will experience almost every climate type even if you ride from autumn to spring without a winter there between. Mornings in Alaska can be and probably are between -5 and 0 °c.. Tropical heat and humidity in Central America. High-altitude cold in the Andes. Windy and cool conditions in Patagonia. And yes, most likely there will also be some rainy days.
